To begin with, being touchscreen devices the screen size of such feature phone makes a lot of difference in the overall usability. On these grounds, both the devices carry a capacitive touchscreen, however, while Samsung REX 90 houses a 3.5-inch capacitive HVGA display (480x320p) Nokia Asha 311 features a 3-inch capacitive display with 400x320p resolution, suggesting that Samsung has an edge over Nokia in terms of screen size of the device. Though touch response is something which makes a whole lot of difference, and having said that, we found both the devices on similar stands. Dual-SIM connectivity is another part where Samsung REX 90 sways ahead of Nokia Asha 311, which comes with single SIM support.
As these phones fall in the Smart feature phone category, both come pre-loaded with a number of apps and games and offer app store support as Samsung has Samsung app store on Java platform, Nokia offers Nokia store on S40 Asha platform. While Asha has support of Nokia Express Browser, the REX features Opera Browser to compress the size of websites for quick data downloads.
As far as the design goes, both come packed in plastic frames though Nokia Asha 311 looks better and tougher than the Samsung REX 90. Samsung runs on the basic processor and lacks 3G while the Asha 311 is powered by 1GHz processor and supports 3G connectivity as well.
If the camera is to be considered, both devices have a 3.2-megapixel camera sans auto focus and flash light, and can record videos as well. On connectivity front, both the handsets come with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support.
For entertainment, both come pre-loaded with a number of messenger apps and free games, like Asha has 40 EA games free to download from its store, Samsung offers 10 Gameloft games on it. Nokia Asha 311 though has accelerometer as well. Also, while Asha offers Nokia Music store, the REX comes with Samsung’s recently launched myStation service along with myMovies and myMobileTV; a tough competition again but Nokia has an edge with a larger music repository.
All in all, even though Samsung has tried hard with REX 90 to overpower the Asha 311, it could not match up the stands of Nokia Asha 311 which offers a better set of features in many ways.
Though it would be too early to pass a statement on the REX series in total because even Nokia tested with the previous version of Asha and worked on new Asha devices with better offering, here we bring to you a comparison between key specifications of the devices.
