Apple TV launched in India @ Rs 8,295
Soon after launching iTunes Store in India, Apple has rolled out the Apple TV media streaming box in the country. This device connects with any existing television via HDMI to stream purchased multimedia content or content stored on iCloud.

Users can also view content stored on their iOS device using Airplay, a media streaming feature. Apple TV also supports Airplay mirroring, which means they can duplicate your iOS device's screen on the TV for internet surfing or gaming on a big screen. On the back, this device has HDMI, optical audio, power, microUSB and Ethernet ports. This gadget can be controlled remotely using iPhone, iPod touch and iPad via the Remote app.

Inside, there is Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for wireless connectivity. It is powered by a single core Apple A5 processor and comes with an Apple remote for control and navigation.

Over the past few months, Apple has been getting aggressive in India. It launched iPad mini and iPhone 5 soon after their global launch and followed it up with iTunes Store in December. This online content store allows users to buy local as well as international music and movies. The iPhone maker had launched iTunes Store in many parts of Asia in June, but left out India.

The new Apple iTunes Store offers individual songs priced at between Rs 7-15 and whole albums from Rs 70. The company is also offering iTunes Match in the country, which enables users to store music purchased from sources other than iTunes in the cloud.

The company will face competition from the likes of Gaana.com, Saavn.com and Dhingana.com when it comes to music streaming. Similarly, iTunes Store will have to grapple with services like BoxTV and Spuul for movie streaming in the country.

Recently, it was reported that Apple had become the second biggest smartphone maker in the country in terms of revenue. The company has ramped up its Indian operations and IDC estimates that over the past three months, sales of Apple devices, especially iPhones, have gone up by 3-4 times.
