Nokia has finally launched its flagship device the Lumia 920 in India, yesterday.
The launch of the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 were at two separate events in Delhi and Mumbai.
For Nokia, the Lumia 920 is the do-or-die smartphone. Not only are they calling it the world’s most innovative smartphone they’re also pitching it aggressively against the most successful smartphone of 2012, the Samsung Galaxy S III. In the presentation yesterday, we saw a lot of comparisons between the camera of the Galaxy S III and the Nokia Lumia 920.
But specs aside, price is the other key factor that determines the momentum of a smartphone. Samsung galaxy S III is, clearly, the world’s best selling smartphone for 2012 and in terms of price-range in India the two are closely matched as far as flagship devices go. Apple’s iPhone 5 is way higher in the price ladder, with the cheapest, 16GB version priced at Rs 45,50o, so it would hardly be a fair comparison.
The price for Nokia Lumia 920 is currently Rs 38,199 on the Nokia site. Check it out here. The Nokia Lumia 920 is also available on Flipkart for 36, 999. But this is pre-order only and the delivery date is in the third week of January.
Infibeam also has the latest Lumia device for sale, but they have only revealed the pre-order charge which is Rs 5000 and the rest of the amount has not been revealed.
But Samsung is also playing it aggressive as far as pricing goes for the Galaxy S III. The 16GB version ( the Nokia Lumia 920 is 32GB with no microSD card) is available on the Samsung estore for Rs 32, 540.
But Samsung is also offering some free benefits with this device, which includes a 32 GB microSD card, upto 3GB free Data plans and Movies and Songs for users who buy the device now. For more details about the offer click here. The device is available in Red, Pebble Blue and White on Samsung’s estore.
Samsung is also making the same offer with the 32GB version of the phone. This version of the phone is available on Samsung’s estore for Rs 35,460 although the device is not in stock on the estore.
As far as other online retailers are concerned, Flipkart has the Galaxy S III available for Rs 31,900 for the 16GB version. Flipkart also has the Pebble Blue and Red colours available, although there is no offer for free goodies along with the phone. Infibeam is also offering the 16GB version of the phone for the same price as Flipkart. Homeshop 18 is also selling the Galaxy S III at the same price as Flipkart.
In terms of pricing Nokia Lumia has a tough competitor in the form of the Galaxy S III, which will not take this launch lying down. All this of course, is excellent news for the consumer.
