We deal with a variety of electronic contents in this information age. Perhaps you have never read an EPUB or Kindle e-Book before, but you must have ever composed documents, Word for instance, and found it necessary to view that file on your personal computer as well as your portable devices, say, your smartphone or tablet. However, the fact might be that general docs such as TXT, Word and PPT and even eBook formats like EPUB and MOBI, are not that compatible with your devices by default. Here I will introduce two powerful freeware to help solve your eBook & doc formats problem.
Calibre is the most powerful eBook converter with dozens of formats supported.
Input formats supported: CBZ, CBR, CBC, CHM, DJVU, EPUB, FB2, HTML, HTMLZ, LIT, LRF, MOBI, ODT, PDF, PRC, PDB, PML, RB, RTF, SNB, TCR, TXT, TXTZ
Output formats supported: AZW3, EPUB, FB2, OEB, LIT, LRF, MOBI, HTMLZ, PDB, PML, RB, PDF, RTF, SNB, TCR, TXT, TXTZ
Although mainstream eReaders support respective eBook formats (MOBI for Kindle and EPUB for Nook), we can easily use Calibre to convert our books (DRM-free) to the supported titles. Simply add the books to Calibre, click “Convert books” to set output format and convert.
It is not advisable to convert all eBooks/files to PDF when it comes to strict reading, as PDF is really a cumbersome format for zooming and highlighting. For EPUB supported devices, you’d better convert MOBI or PDF to EPUB. Otherwise, convert to MOBI for your Kindle models.

A short of Calibre is that it does not support Office docs (DOC/DOCX/XLS/XLSX/PPT/PPTX) conversion. In fact, we use MS documents, especially Word and PowerPoint quite a lot for work & study. In this case, another tool, Epubor PDF creator, would be a wonderful companion. Epubor PDF creator empowers you to convert any printable file into PDF instead of files merely from Microsoft. After successful installation, a virtual printer will be added to your computer. Just open any printable file and select “Epubor Virtual Printer” to “Print”.

For people who like writing but illiterate to eBooks, just compose a pure Word or even a Text Document and convert the DOC/DOCX/TXT to EPUB and MOBI for further promoting. Comic fans can also convert a cloud of CBR files to PDF so as to view on portable devices. Anyway, we do not have to restrict ourselves to computers any more when we want to read a file. One of the best solutions might fall to PDF (Portable Document Format) conversion, which is accepted by most mobile devices as well as view applications.
This combination nearly covers all formats of eBooks & docs regardless of DRM-protected ones, which can’t be legally converted by other software, either. Well, just make full use of these two tools (Calibre + Epubor PDF creator) and change your way of reading.
